- Details
- Throughout the month of January, a parade of birders observed a chocolate-brown immature Gyrfalcon in the vicinity of the LaSalle Nuclear Generating Plant. Several observers thought that they may have observed a second grayer bird in the area as well. The digital photo, referenced as taken by Jerry Kumery, may have been of this second bird, different from the bird photographed by Greg Lambeth. However, the Committee in reviewing the photos did not feel that they could be certain that these were not photos of the same individual. Given that as far as the Committee is aware, no observer saw two Gyrfalcons at the same time, in the absence of clear documentation of a second bird, the Committee considers there to have been only a single Gyrfalcon present in January 2003.
The 10th IORC Report corrected the record to include Cindy Alberico as the individual who first found and identified the bird (and who provided the Committee with writing documentation) and to include Dennis Oehmke among the documentors.
