- Details
- Size approximating Herring Gull, pink legs, and dark gray mantle suggested Western Gull to the observers, but much more detail (preferably photographs) would be needed for acceptance of that species, especially for a subadult. The bird reportedly had a considerable amount of dark on the bill and a wide blackish tail band, but already had a mirror on the outer primary. Research revealed that this combination is extremely unlikely in Western. Several possible hybrid combinations would need serious consideration.
