- Although the description was consistent with and suggestive of Mew Gull, there was no description of the primary pattern, and the darker mantle in comparison to Ring-billed was not pointed out explicitly. Since there were at least four midwestern Mew Gulls in winter 1985-1986 (see American Birds, vol. 40 p. 287, p. 474, p. 479), the record could well be correct, but the description did not contain enough detail to convince the Committee.
