Details
The bird was incompletely described; in particular, the most important field mark of the Mew Gull, the darker mantle color in comparison to Ring-billed Gull, was not mentioned, while other important features, such as size, bill shape, and the patterning of the primaries, were not described in sufficient detail. On the other hand, the combination of dark eye and broken tail band perhaps favors Mew Gull over Ring-billed Gull.
