- Although this bird was banded, and the correct wing:tail ratio for a female Black-capped was observed, the Committee retained some doubt, both because of the difficulty of reproduction of these particular measurements and the existence of backcross hybrid birds with overlapping measurements. The record is published in American Birds vol. 40 p. 288. A specimen is needed to confirm this species for extreme southern Illinois.
